Quantcast Lord of Light: Roger Zelazny's inter-dimensional writing style spanned universes, Jack Kirby's powerhouse creativity and kick-ass illustrative style, Barry Ira Geller's vision to bring it all to the screen.

"Colonists from another planet conquer Earth and become the historic Hindu Gods until they turn against each other for control of the world. From this heralds the return of the Buddha, magic, spirituality, unification of all forces, and a new generation of mankind"

The international best-selling Hugo Award winning novel of science fantasy by:

Roger Zelazny

Mahasamatman, the Lord of Light

In the days of darkness Man's only ray of hope was the Lord of Light ®

  L ord of Light is.....

A "metaphysical" action adventure love story where the crew of a space ship colonize an ancient planet, their passengers become the populace, and they use their technology to turn themselves into powerful gods and goddesses. One man stands alone to fight his old colleagues and free mankind. The planet is called Earth....

Far into the future. Long after the Destruction of their home planet Urath...

On an earthlike planet, what remains of humankind's descendants are now subjugated by the First Colonists, the crew of the starship that brought them to their new home 1000 years before. They have taken control of ancient technologies and enhanced themselves with godlike psychic powers and virtual immortality. Adopting the panoply of the venerable Hindu religion - they live lives as its Gods, surrounded by super-electronic weaponry within the trappings of a primitive civilization. A story of the classic drama of power, love, honor, pride, and fantasy - erupting in an epic war of the Gods -- and ultimate transcendence.

Our hero Sam, unready to battle the tyrannical forces of the Celestial City allied with his former wife, now the rapturous Kali: Goddess of Destruction. With her is her new love Yama, The Red Lord of Death. Behind them stands Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and the vast Pantheon of gods and demigods of the City of Heaven. . . .  . . .

Published in 1967, "The World of the Book is even more relevant now than it was then, with political factions, world religions, plutocracy and oligarchies fight for dominance. Sam is a fasntastic character, and the book is filled with so many other compelling characters, too, not to mention one who is transgender, long before there was a word for it." -- Gale Anne Hurd, Valhalla Ent. 2016

Sam is the dreamer and master schemer. He is the strategist and cosmic trickster who becomes Siddhartha and then the Buddha to ward off the iron grasp of Heaven. Sam is the ancient renegade god Kalkin whose powers become ever-more revealed to him as he fights to change the course of an entire civilization --- and upon whose shoulders rests the future of the entire world.

In the end he will be recognized by history as the true leader, the Binder of Destiny,

The Lord of Light.

Spoiler Alert (but important to know): The novel starts where Sam has been killed by Kali in a previous battle against the Gods, and now Yama, God of Death, must work up enough Kilowatts of Prayer to bring him back to life!

Lord of Light, Zelazny, Geller, and Kirby
This year is the 50th anniversary of first publication of Roger Zelazny's Hugo Award winning novel Lord of Light, a science-fiction tale based in a future, Hindu-Buddhist infused alien world. In the late 70s, Barry Ira Geller embarked on an ambitious project to adapt Lord of Light as both a major motion picture, for which he wrote the screenplay, and a futuristic theme park for which he worked with Jack Kirby to create amazing designs. Though his plans did not come to fruition at that time, the screenplay and Kirby designs were used in a successful plan to free Americans from Iran, as depicted in the Oscar-winning film Argo. More recently these Geller-Kirby designs were colored "blacklight" style for Heavy Metal Magazine and issued as a series of posters. Now at Comic Fest we can hear directly from Barry Ira Geller about his original efforts at adapting the novel, his work with Jack Kirby, and what's next for Lord of Light. Barry will be joined by Mike Royer, who inked Kirby's Lord of Light art. Barry Ira Geller, Mike Royer

On Oct,5, 2013 Barry Ira Geller gave a panel at San Diego Comic Fest, about working with Jack Kirby, how Jack and others of the Science Fiction Land Team changed the world -- and answering questions about how Argo -- the true back story -- actually happened, including a sneak preview of an upcoming documentary and the CIA's "confession" about using Jack's and my work. January 2015-Regretably the ComicFest website has taken down the 2013 Special Guest Lecturers, so here is a copy of a the article which appeared in a Los Angeles newspaper. With pix of me lecturing.

What happened to the forthcoming Documentary film, Science Fiction Land™ ? 700+ Crowdfunders from around the planet on Nov. 3, 2012 gave $54,000 to finish the film. Then the Director, Judd Erhlich, abandoned the Project for a year, taking a different job and giving excuses for doing nothing on the project. He later came back asking for another $200,000 & was forced to return all funds or face fraud actions! A real bummer. But! We plan to see a new version get started before the end of 2017! It Will Happen!

Science Fiction Land™ is now a U.S. Trademark of Barry Ira Geller Productions.
