Jack's Angel
The Streets of Heaven

>

History:

Jack Kirby: I'd wanted to see what Jack thought of heaven and asked him for a "streets of Heaven" concept, using one of the buildings from the Lord of Light novel. On the right you can see what is called Milehigh Spire, Heaven's meeting place, archives, and general ballroom (you can also see this same building as the center piece of "Science Fiction Land"). Jack liked this drawing a lot, but since it wasn't what I was looking for at the time, I gifted it back to Jack. The drawing, with watercolor, was later to appear in "The Art of Jack Kirby" called, "Angel." No mention was made of its origin as a part of the Lord of Light set, so I am putting it on the record, here. However, since I gave the drawing back to Jack I consider it to be part of the Kirby Estate and will not place the print on sale.

Lord of Light:  MileHigh Spire, which appears on the right of this drawing, is the remains of the original Starship, the Star of India, which brought the Gods from their home planet, Urth. It is also mentioned as now in use as a grand ballroom and party place, not to mention lower levels utilized as the Grand Archives of Heaven, with records kept by Tak of the Bright Spear
